Five Game of Thrones options in Split compared on what they actually get you into, including why the €35 tour with the cellars in its title does not include cellar entry and the €39 one does.

What You Should Know

  • Only three of these five are guided tours. The €12 Klis listing and the €15 museum listing are admission tickets, and both are self-guided once you are through the door. Comparing them against the walking tours on price alone is the most common mistake made on this page.
  • The €35 tour is titled 'with Diocletian's Palace Cellar' but the listing excludes cellar entry, which is around €6 on the door. Add it and you are at roughly €41, above the €39 tour that includes entry to both filmed chambers. Read the excluded list, not the title.
  • The €12 Klis Fortress ticket does not include transport. Klis is 12 km north of Split, the meeting point is the Olive Museum rather than anywhere in the city, and bus 22, which stops near the Croatian National Theatre, runs weekdays only and roughly every 90 minutes. Guests who take a taxi consistently report around €20 each way. If you drive, parking below the fortress is free but runs to only a handful of spaces.
  • The palace cellars have a free central corridor lined with souvenir stalls, and plenty of visitors walk it thinking they have seen the Game of Thrones location. They have not. The chambers that appear on screen are behind a separate ticket barrier on either side.
  • The Game of Thrones Museum is the lowest-rated listing here at 3.8 across 454 reviews, and the pattern behind that number is remarkably consistent: visitors report getting round the whole thing in five to twenty minutes, and every piece on display is a replica or a production backup rather than a screen-used prop. Both cellar walking tours include the Iron Throne photo anyway, which is what most people go to the museum for.

Game of Thrones Tours in Split: What You Are Actually Booking

Stone arches and vaulted underground chambers in the cellars of Diocletian's Palace, Split
Diocletian’s Palace cellars in Split, Croatia, showing the ancient stone arches and vaulted underground chambers beneath the historic palace.

A Game of Thrones tour in Split is a walk through Diocletian's Palace with a guide who plays the relevant scene on a tablet while you stand where it was shot. Split played Meereen across seasons four, five and six, and the two locations that carry the show most convincingly are the palace cellars, which became Daenerys's dragon dungeon, and Klis Fortress on the ridge behind the city, which became the exterior of Meereen and the site of the "Kill the Masters" scene.

The five listings compared on this page are not five versions of the same thing. Three are guided walks of 1 to 2 hours inside the old town, priced €25 to €39. The other two are admission tickets: one to Klis Fortress bundled with an olive museum, one to a small Game of Thrones museum on Bosanska Street. That distinction is what decides the booking, and it is not obvious from a search results page where a €12 listing sits beside a €39 one.

The second thing worth knowing before you compare prices is that only one of the three walking tours actually includes entry to the filmed cellar chambers. The other two walk you to the door. Once you add the entry fee yourself, the price order on this page reverses, which we have laid out in full below.

A Game of Thrones walk takes a morning or an evening at most, so it slots easily around the bigger excursions. If you are building a Split itinerary, the usual companions are a Blue Cave tour from Split, a Krka waterfalls day trip, a Split food tour through the same palace streets, or a tuk tuk tour of Split for the Marjan hill viewpoints the walking tours never reach. The other filming city is Dubrovnik, which stood in for King's Landing itself and is reachable on a Dubrovnik day trip from Split. For the palace without the television, a Split walking tour covers the same ground.

Our Top Pick

History Guide Split: Game of Thrones & History Walking Tour with Tickets

From €39 · 5.0 ⭐ (563 reviews)

The only listing here that includes entry to both filmed cellar chambers rather than walking you to the ticket barrier, and the highest rating on the page at a flat 5.0 across 563 reviews. Groups are capped at 10, half the size of the next tour, which matters in corridors that narrow to single file.

Our Take

The headline prices on this page run in the wrong order. The €35 walk excludes cellar entry, so the real cost of seeing the filmed chambers with that guide is closer to €41, above the €39 walk that includes both of them and caps its groups at 10 rather than 20. The €25 evening walk is genuinely the cheapest guided option, but it is one hour, it does not go inside, and it has only 14 reviews behind its 4.9. And the €12 Klis listing is not a tour at all: it is an admission ticket 12 km outside the city with no transport attached, which for most people means a taxi each way on top. Work out what each listing actually gets you through the door of, and the field narrows to two.

ℹ️ All tour listings and the information on this page were reviewed by our team on August 29, 2026. Prices and availability may change, so always confirm with the operator before booking. Cellar entry is priced separately by the City of Split and was listed at €6 in mid-2026, though some 2026 sources quote up to €10. Either figure puts the €35 tour above the €39 one once entry is added. Klis Fortress admission is €12 for adults and €4 for under-15s if you buy at the gate rather than through the listing above. Museum duration is the figure the listing gives; visitors typically report five to twenty minutes.

What Is a Game of Thrones Tour in Split Like?

The shape of a typical walk, using our top pick as the reference:

  1. 01Start

Meet at the Gregory of Nin Statue

Beside the Golden Gate, at the 8-metre Meštrović bronze of the 10th-century bishop. Your guide is holding a black umbrella. Groups run to a maximum of 10 and the tour goes daily in English, Croatian or Italian.

  2. 02~20 min

    The West Chambers

Down into the palace substructures and through the ticket barrier into the vaulted hall used as Daenerys's dragon dungeon, where Rhaegal and Viserion were chained in the dark in season four.

  3. 03~20 min

    The East Chambers

Across to the opposite side of the cellars for the corridor where the Sons of the Harpy ambushed Grey Worm and Ser Barristan Selmy. The narrowest space on the tour and the reason a small group is worth paying for.

  4. 04~20 min

    Papalićeva Street and the Alleys

Back up into daylight and through the lanes that played the back streets of Meereen, including the setting of the slave rebellion, with each scene played back on a tablet where it was filmed.

  5. 05~25 min

Vestibule, Peristyle and Temple of Jupiter

The historical half of the walk. The domed Vestibule where klapa singers perform, the colonnaded Peristyle at the heart of the 4th-century palace, and the Temple of Jupiter with its headless sphinx outside.

  6. 06Finish

Iron Throne Photo, then the Riva

The tour closes with your photo on the throne, included in the price, and ends out on the seafront promenade. No museum ticket needed for the picture most people come for.

A Game of Thrones walking tour in Split runs 1 to 2 hours entirely on foot, covering under a kilometre inside Diocletian's Palace at a slow pace with long stops. The format is consistent across all three operators: you stand at the spot, the guide plays the scene on a tablet, and then explains what was actually there in the 4th century. What the listings do not mention is what guests actually do with the tablet, which is line the screen up against the stonework and recreate the frame, so it is worth asking at the start rather than at the end. Several operators also send the clips and photos through afterwards, sometimes via a group chat set up before departure. There is no transport, and the only physical demands are cobblestones and a flight of palace stairs.

Our take (check the excluded list, not the tour title): This is the single most useful thing to do before booking anything on this page. One listing names Diocletian's Palace cellar in its title and then excludes entry to it further down, which puts its true cost above the tour that includes both chambers. Titles on these platforms describe the itinerary, not the ticket. Scroll to what is not included and read it properly.

Our take (group size matters more here than on most Split tours): The filmed chambers are genuinely narrow, and the corridor where the Sons of the Harpy ambush was shot funnels down to close to single file. A group of 10 moves through it and can all see the tablet. A group of 20 splits into people watching and people waiting. It is the clearest practical difference between the two cellar tours and it is not reflected in the price.

Our take (the evening slot is a genuine answer to July and August): The palace holds heat in the stone through the afternoon and the Peristyle is at its most crowded between 11:00 and 16:00. A 19:30 start puts you in the same lanes at a fraction of the density, with the limestone lit and the day trippers back on their coaches. In high summer that is worth more than the extra 40 minutes the daytime tour gives you.

Best Game of Thrones Tours in Split

Three of these five put a guide in front of you, and two sell you a door. We would shortlist on what each one gets you inside rather than on the headline price, because the two locations that carry the show best are also the two that explain themselves least: the cellars are unmarked stone behind a ticket barrier, and Klis is a self-guided ridge with placards.

Best Overall

History Guide Split: Game of Thrones & History Walking Tour with Tickets

The only listing on this page where entry to both filmed cellar chambers is already in the price, and the highest rated at a flat 5.0 across 563 reviews. You go into the West Chambers, where Daenerys chained her dragons, and the East Chambers, where Grey Worm and Ser Barristan were ambushed by the Sons of the Harpy, with each scene played back on a tablet where it was shot. Groups cap at 10, it runs 1 hour 40 minutes daily, and it takes ages 6 to 100 in English, Croatian or Italian.

Longest Walk

Gray Line Croatia: Game of Thrones Tour with Diocletian's Palace Cellar

Two hours with a licensed guide for €35, the longest of the three walks and the one with the most reviews at 589. The catch is in the title: it names the cellar but the listing excludes entry, so you pay around €6 at the barrier on top. Groups run up to 20. It meets on the Riva rather than at the Golden Gate, includes the Iron Throne photo, and comes with 20 percent off the Game of Thrones Museum if you want to add that.

Best Evening Option

HI-story HiSTORY: Game of Thrones Evening History Walking Tour

One hour from 19:30 for €25, which makes it the cheapest guided way to see the Split filming locations and the sanest option in July and August, when the palace is 35°C and shoulder to shoulder by mid-afternoon. It covers the exteriors, the Golden Gate and the Iron Throne but does not include cellar entry. It is also the newest listing here, with 14 reviews behind its 4.9, so there is less to go on than the two established walks.

Best for Klis

Klis Fortress, Game of Thrones & Olive Museum Experience

The way into the Meereen exterior, and the cheapest ticket on this page at €12. Klis is where the gates of Meereen and the Kill the Masters scene were shot, and the terraces read on screen better than anything in the old town. It bundles a guided tour of the Stella Croatica Olive Museum, a 2023 European Museum of the Year finalist. Three hours on paper, though most visitors spend 45 minutes to two hours on the fortress itself. All ages, daily except Sunday. There is no transport from Split, the fortress is self-guided, and there is a toilet on site but nothing to buy.

Fans Only

Game of Thrones Museum Entrance Ticket

Five themed rooms on Bosanska Street covering Meereen, King's Landing, the North, Beyond the Wall and the Three-Eyed Raven, with props, costumes, dioramas and an Iron Throne photo to finish. At 3.8 across 454 reviews it is the weakest rating here, and the complaints are specific rather than vague: most visitors are back on the street inside twenty minutes, and everything on display is a replica or a production backup. Room counts in guest reports range from three to five. Worth it if the costumes and dioramas are genuinely the point for you. Skip it if you are already booking a walking tour that hands you the throne photo.

Check availability

None of the five includes Kaštel Gomilica or the Žrnovnica quarry, the two outlying Split-area locations. Those need a private driver or a rental car, and both are open ground you can walk for free once you get there.

Where Game of Thrones Was Actually Filmed in Split

Split and its surroundings stood in for Meereen across seasons four, five and six, and for Braavos in season five. Six locations are within easy reach of the city, and they vary enormously in how much they look like the show once you are standing in them. One pattern we noticed in guest reviews is that the fortress is remembered for the view far more often than for the filming, so it is worth going up for both rather than one. Here is what each one is, and which of the tours above gets you to it.

MeereenPalace Cellars

Daenerys's Dragon Dungeon

The substructures beneath Diocletian's Palace, built in the early 4th century to level the sloping ground under the emperor's apartments. The vaulted halls became the chamber where Daenerys chained Rhaegal and Viserion, and the corridor where the Sons of the Harpy ambushed Grey Worm and Ser Barristan. This is the location that needs no imagination at all. The central passage through the cellars is free and full of souvenir stalls; the filmed chambers are ticketed and to either side.

MeereenKlis Fortress

The Gates and the Kill the Masters Scene

A fortress strung along a limestone ridge 12 km north of Split, held against the Ottomans until 1537. Its terraces and outer walls became the exterior of Meereen and the vantage point for Daenerys's address to the freed slaves. Open 08:30 to 20:30 daily, €12 adult and €4 for under-15s at the gate. Bus 22, which stops near the Croatian National Theatre, is the cheapest way up but runs weekdays only, roughly every 90 minutes. Expect steps throughout, almost no shade, and a view over the Kastela bay and the islands rather than over Split old town, which is hidden behind the ridge.

MeereenPapalićeva Street

The Back Streets and the Slave Rebellion

A narrow lane in the middle of the old town, off the Peristyle, where the slave uprising was filmed against genuine palace stonework. It costs nothing and is open at all hours, but it is also the location that looks least like itself without help. This is where the tablet-and-guide format earns its money: the alley is unremarkable until someone plays you the scene standing in it.

BraavosKaštel Gomilica

Where Arya Sold Oysters

A 16th-century fortified islet built by Benedictine nuns and linked to the shore by a short bridge, about 15 km along the coast toward Trogir. It became the waterfront of Braavos in season five, where Arya pushed her oyster barrow before her training with Jaqen H'ghar. None of the five listings above goes there. It is a residential village, free to walk, and reachable by local bus or a short drive.

MeereenŽrnovnica

The Quarry and Missandei's Bath

A village 10 km east of Split with two separate credits: the disused quarry on its outskirts, which became the plain where Daenerys's army massed before the gates of Meereen and where Daario fought the Meereenese champion, and the old stone mill on the Žrnovnica river, used for Missandei's bathing scene. Both are open ground and neither is on a scheduled tour.

MeereenŠibenik

The Small Fighting Pit

St John's Fortress at Šibenik provided the smaller fighting pit where Jorah fought to win back Daenerys's favour in season five, not the great pit where Drogon lands later in the season. Šibenik sits 85 km up the coast, roughly an hour by road, and is usually visited as its own day out or bolted onto a Krka trip rather than a Split walking tour.

The two locations in the old town, the cellars and Papalićeva Street, are covered by all three walking tours, though only one includes the cellar ticket. Klis needs its own trip. Kaštel Gomilica, Žrnovnica and Šibenik are not on any of the five listings compared here and need a car or a private driver.

Our Take

Two people booking the €35 tour and then paying for the cellars are spending €82 to see the same chambers a couple on the €39 tour sees for €78, in a group twice the size. That is the whole pricing story on this page in one line. The €12 Klis ticket looks like the bargain until you cost the taxi, at which point a couple is at roughly €70 for a self-guided fortress. It is still worth doing, but it is not the cheap option the price suggests.

How Much Does a Game of Thrones Tour in Split Cost?

Guided Game of Thrones walking tours in Split cost €25 to €39 per person and run 1 to 2 hours. Entry tickets are cheaper: €12 for Klis Fortress bundled with the Olive Museum, €15 for the Game of Thrones Museum. The figure that moves is cellar entry, around €6, which one walking tour includes and two do not. Here is what each tier actually buys.

Ticket only€12–15

Klis or the Museum, No Guide

The two cheapest listings are admissions, not tours. €12 covers Klis Fortress and a guided lap of the Olive Museum, but the fortress itself is self-guided and you have to get 12 km out of the city under your own steam. €15 covers a museum the listing describes as five rooms and most visitors get round in ten to twenty minutes. Neither includes anyone explaining what you are looking at inside the palace.

Guided, no entry€25–35

The Walk Without the Cellars

Two of the three walking tours leave cellar entry out. The €25 evening walk is upfront about it and prices accordingly, at one hour from 19:30. The €35 two-hour walk names the cellar in its title and excludes it in the details, so budget around €6 more at the barrier. Both include the Iron Throne photo.

Guided, all in€39

Everything in One Price

The only figure on this page you do not have to add anything to. Entry to both filmed chambers, the Iron Throne photo, the tablet playback and a guide, in a group capped at 10, over 1 hour 40 minutes. Roughly €23 per person per hour, and about €2 less than the €35 tour once you have paid your own way into the cellars.

Extras€6–40

What You Still Pay For

Cellar entry at around €6 on the two tours that exclude it. Getting to Klis, which is the big one: bus 22 is cheap but weekday-only and every 90 minutes, so most people take a taxi, which visitors consistently put at around €20 each way. The palace cathedral and bell tower are ticketed separately again, and no Game of Thrones tour includes them.

We would lean toward the €39 all-inclusive walk, which is the cheapest route into the filmed chambers with a guide once entry is counted. Worth knowing that guests report these walks running to their stated length or a little over rather than being cut short, so the per-hour maths holds up. If you only want the exteriors and the story, the €25 evening walk is the better buy and the more comfortable one in high summer.

Our Take

The honest summary is that Split gives you two locations that genuinely deliver, the palace cellars and Klis, and four more that need a guide, a tablet and some goodwill. If you have one slot, spend it on a cellar walk in the old town. If you have a car and half a day, add Klis, which is the better view and the more recognisable exterior. The museum is the one we would drop first, and the €25 evening walk is the one we would pick in August regardless of what the daytime options include.

Who a Split Game of Thrones Tour Suits, and Who Should Skip It

The three walking tours rate 4.8 to 5.0, and from what we have seen across 70 guest reviews the guiding genuinely is not the risk on this page. The recurring complaints attach to the two ticket products, not to the walks. The mismatches are about what you are expecting to see and how much of the show you actually remember.

Worth it if you watched the Meereen seasons

Seasons four through six are where Split earns its place, and for us the cellars are the strongest single location in Croatia after the Dubrovnik walls. If you can picture Daenerys's dragons in the dark or the ambush in the corridor, standing in those rooms lands properly. The tablet playback closes whatever gap is left.

Worth it even if you have not watched it, on the right tour

Both cellar tours are half Roman history by design, and the top pick is titled as a history walk for a reason. You get the Vestibule, the Peristyle, the Temple of Jupiter and a working explanation of why a Roman emperor built a fortified retirement palace here in the first place. Plenty of guests book it as their general Split orientation with the Game of Thrones material as a bonus, including reluctant partners dragged along and at least one working historian who still came away having learned something. We would give this the edge over a standard old town walking tour for that reason: you get the same Roman material with a narrative holding it together.

Think twice about the museum

At 3.8 across 454 reviews it is the one listing here where the criticism is consistent rather than scattered, and specific enough to act on. Reported visit times cluster between five and twenty minutes. Guest room counts range from three to five against the listed five. And the props are replicas or production backups throughout, which is the single thing disappointed visitors mention most, because they arrived expecting screen-used pieces. Both cellar walks include the Iron Throne photo, which removes the main reason most people go.

The split in the reviews is clean, and it is worth knowing which side you are on. The people rating it five are dedicated fans who came for the costumes and the photo ops and got them. The people rating it one and two are casual viewers who worked out the cost per minute. There is very little in between.

Not the right call if you were expecting sets

Nothing was built and left standing. Meereen's gates were digital, added above the real walls of Klis. Papalićeva Street is an ordinary lane. What survives is stone that was already 1,700 years old when the crews arrived, which is a different and arguably better thing. But it is not a studio backlot, and we would not book any of these for someone hoping to walk onto a set.

Reconsider Klis if you do not have a car

The €12 ticket is good value at the gate and the views over the Kaštela bay are the best in the area. Two things catch people out. The fortress climbs a ridge on steps and uneven stone throughout, and guests with reduced mobility or a head for heights say plainly that it does not work for them. And getting there is the problem. Bus 22 stops near the Croatian National Theatre, runs weekdays only and roughly every 90 minutes, and the listing's meeting point is the Olive Museum rather than a pickup in Split. Without a car or a taxi budget, this is the listing most likely to go wrong.

From Our Experience

What we consistently see across guest reviews is that the risk on this page sits almost entirely in the two ticket products rather than the guided walks. The tours draw almost no recurring complaints, while the museum and the trip up to Klis generate the same specific frustrations over and over, and those are precisely the two you have to get right on your own.

Tips for Your Split Game of Thrones Tour

  • Read the excluded list before the title. One listing here names Diocletian's Palace cellar in its title and excludes entry to it in the details. Cellar entry is around €6, which is enough to reverse the price order between two of these tours. This is the single most common way people overpay on this page.
  • Do not mistake the free corridor for the filming location. The central passage under the palace is free and lined with souvenir and craft stalls. The vaulted chambers that appear on screen are behind ticket barriers on either side. Plenty of visitors walk the corridor, buy a fridge magnet and leave believing they have seen the dragon dungeon.
  • Take the evening slot in July and August. The Peristyle is busiest between 11:00 and 16:00 and the palace stone holds the afternoon heat well past sunset. A 19:30 start gets you the same lanes with a fraction of the crowd and much better light on the limestone.
  • Check the group cap, not just the duration. Ten versus twenty is the real difference between the two cellar tours. The East Chambers corridor narrows to close to single file, and in a large group half of it is spent waiting for a turn at the tablet.
  • Sort out Klis transport before you book the ticket. Bus 22, which stops near the Croatian National Theatre, is the cheap way and it is weekday-only, roughly every 90 minutes. Buses 34, 35 and 36 from the main station on Sukoišanska stop at Caffe Bar Oprah, a short walk below the fortress. Otherwise budget around €20 each way by taxi, which is what visitors consistently report paying.
  • Go up to Klis late in the day. The fortress runs along an exposed limestone ridge with almost no shade and closes at 20:30. Late afternoon gives you the light across the Kaštela bay and the islands, and it is a great deal more comfortable than midday in August.
  • Carry water and expect uneven ground. This is the most repeated practical note from guests, and it is easy to underestimate on a walk this short. The palace floor is uneven Roman and medieval stone throughout, there is nowhere to buy water once a tour is moving, and August routinely runs past 35°C in the lanes.
  • Wear shoes with grip. The old town is polished limestone worn smooth over seventeen centuries and genuinely slippery when wet, the cellar floors are uneven, and Klis is loose stone and steep steps throughout.
  • Skip the museum if your tour includes the throne photo. Both cellar walks include it. The €15 museum ticket is worth it for the costumes and dioramas, but not as a way to get a picture you are already getting. Visitors also report a throne photo available at the shop across the street, so the museum is not the only route to it.
  • If you have a car, add Kaštel Gomilica. Arya's Braavos waterfront is a 16th-century fortified islet 15 km toward Trogir, it is free, it takes twenty minutes to walk, and no tour on this page includes it. Pair it with Trogir for a decent half day.
  • Ask about the photos and clips at the start of the walk. Guides play the scene on a tablet where it was filmed, and several send the clips and the photos they take through afterwards, sometimes via a group chat set up before departure. Guests who ask up front line up their own shots against the stonework as they go. Guests who ask at the end have already walked past the good frames.
  • Take water and a hat up to Klis, and go late. The fortress has almost no shade anywhere along the ridge, and afternoon visits in summer are the most common regret. It closes at 20:30. There is a toilet on site but nothing to buy, so carry what you need up with you.
  • Do not expect a view of Split old town from Klis. The fortress looks out over the Kaštela bay, the islands and the plain, which is the better view anyway, but the city itself sits behind the ridge and out of sight. Visitors who go up specifically to photograph Split come back disappointed.
  • Budget 45 minutes to two hours at Klis, not three. The three-hour figure on the listing covers the Olive Museum, the shop time and the fortress together. The fortress alone is a 45 minute wander if you are moving, or closer to two hours if you read the placards and take the walls slowly.
  • Book the walk early in your stay. It doubles as the best orientation to Diocletian's Palace you can get in under two hours, and the layout of the old town makes far more sense afterwards. Doing it on day one improves everything else you do inside the walls.

How We Selected These Tours

Our team looked at every Game of Thrones listing bookable in Split and judged them on one question above all others: what does the price actually get you through the door of. On a page where three walking tours cover almost identical ground inside Diocletian's Palace, the ticket line decides the booking far more than the itinerary does. We kept five that represent the genuine range of what is on offer rather than five versions of the same walk: the all-inclusive tour, the longest walk, the cheapest guided option, the fortress ticket and the museum ticket. Prices, ratings and review counts come straight from the live listings on the date shown in the comparison table. Durations, group caps, meeting points and inclusions were checked against operator websites and independent booking mirrors instead of a single source, which is how we found that one listing names the palace cellar in its title and excludes entry to it in the details. Where sources disagreed, and they did on cellar entry and on meeting points in particular, we used the platform listing's own included and excluded fields. We have flagged the disagreement rather than quietly picking a side. Filming location details come from the Split-Dalmatia tourist board and location records rather than tour marketing, which tends to list a place without saying which season or scene it was. We also read 70 guest reviews across the walking tours, the fortress and the museum before writing, which is where the practical detail on this page comes from: the actual time people spend in the museum, the taxi fare up to Klis, the lack of shade on the ridge, and the fact that the walks land just as well with people who never watched the show. We have not taken all five of these ourselves. Where we describe stop sequences, what is inside the cellars and what guests consistently report, we are working from published itineraries, operator sites and those reviews, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a Game of Thrones tour in Split?+

Guided walking tours cost €25 to €39 per person. The €39 option includes entry to both filmed cellar chambers; the €25 and €35 options do not, and cellar entry is around €6 on the door. Admission tickets are cheaper: €12 for Klis Fortress with the Olive Museum, €15 for the Game of Thrones Museum, both self-guided.

Is the Game of Thrones tour in Split worth it?+

Yes, if you watched the Meereen seasons. For us the cellars of Diocletian's Palace are the strongest Game of Thrones location in Croatia outside Dubrovnik, and standing in the chamber where Daenerys chained her dragons needs no imagination at all. All three guided walks rate between 4.8 and 5.0. The weaker buy is the museum at 3.8, where visitors consistently report getting round it in ten to twenty minutes and finding every prop a replica rather than a screen-used piece.

What was filmed in Split for Game of Thrones?+

Split played Meereen in seasons four, five and six. The palace cellars became Daenerys's dragon dungeon and the corridor where the Sons of the Harpy ambushed Grey Worm and Ser Barristan. Papalićeva Street played the Meereen back streets and the slave rebellion. Klis Fortress, 12 km north, was the Meereen exterior and the Kill the Masters scene. Nearby, Kaštel Gomilica was Braavos in season five, and the Žrnovnica quarry was the plain outside Meereen's gates.

How long is a Game of Thrones walking tour in Split?+

Between one and two hours. The evening walk runs one hour from 19:30, the top-rated tour runs 1 hour 40 minutes, and the longest runs two hours. All are on foot inside Diocletian's Palace, cover under a kilometre, and involve no transport. The Klis Fortress ticket is a separate three-hour experience 12 km outside the city.

Do Game of Thrones tours in Split include Klis Fortress?+

No. None of the three walking tours goes to Klis, which is 12 km north of Split on a limestone ridge. It is a separate booking, and the €12 combined ticket with the Olive Museum does not include transport either. Bus 22, which stops near the Croatian National Theatre, runs weekdays only and roughly every 90 minutes, so most visitors drive or take a taxi.

Is entry to Diocletian's Palace cellars included in Game of Thrones tours?+

Only on one of the three. The €39 History Guide Split tour includes entry to both filmed chambers. The €35 tour names the cellar in its title but excludes entry in the details, and the €25 evening walk does not go inside at all. Entry is around €6 bought separately. Note that the free central corridor through the cellars is not the filming location.

Can you sit on the Iron Throne in Split?+

Yes, and you do not need the museum for it. All three guided walking tours include an Iron Throne photo in the price. The Game of Thrones Museum on Bosanska Street also ends with a throne photo, which is why it is a poor add-on if you have already booked a walk. Only book the museum if the costumes, props and dioramas are what you actually want, and know going in that everything on display is a replica or a production backup.

What is the best Game of Thrones tour in Split?+

By rating and by value, the History Guide Split walk at €39, which holds a flat 5.0 across 563 reviews and is the only listing that includes entry to both filmed cellar chambers rather than leaving you at the ticket barrier. Groups cap at 10, which matters in corridors that narrow to single file. In July and August the €25 evening walk at 19:30 is the more comfortable choice if you can live without going inside.
